_Personality__
At first glance, Scott is a rather laid back sort of guy, always taking things as they come and jumping on any opportunity that crosses his path. He can also be described as cheerful and caring, if not just ambitious, his compassion extending from patients to animals, which is visibly through his two pets. This is because he charishes life and wants people to get the best out of it, though he does accept death when it comes. Besides that, it is common to see a wide, toothy grin on his face, and if it isn’t apparent, then his expression probably consists of a thoughtful frown-- a frown that is always quick to lift when conversation strikes up, unless there is a serious matter being discussed..
Beneath his sly, and at times shy, grins though, lies his thoughtful side. Scott is a deep thinker and analyzer when he needs to be, and can almost think too much, if that is at all possible. Even so, his attention is easily caught (preferably by "shiny" things and at the mere mention of skittles) and he's rarely oblivious to things, looking up at the smallest noise, but that doesn't mean he can't be sneaked up on. Rare and random lapses of absent-mindedness bring about their own surprises as well. As for his metioned shyness, it is more towards the opposite sex and people he highly respects. The latter of which he finds beneficial to keep pleased, though that doesn't mean he'd go beyond his morals and self-aliation to do so. One of the things he dislikes is people pretending they're someone else, which is an emotion deep-rooted with a dislike about himself and the story behind his name. Returning to the matter of women: he's always polite and chivalris, though he has only had a handful of girlfriends, being more married to his job.
It seems that Scott's tragic family history doesn't affect him, having lived through the deaths of all three of his family members, but he is in denial of it, and hasn't dealt with those demons yet. He still has depressions (though the worst happen around the spring, when his family died), and does find his apartment rather lonely most of the time, thus puts in as much overtime as he can. (his dog dislikes his absense greatly, but his landlady is kind enough to take care of him when Scott's away) Most of his past is blurred except for the accidents because of the comings and goings of his new life. What makes it a little hard to handle is that he is reminded by repeated nightmares and can always seem exhausted from them. Scott's an insomniac at best, but he refuses to let that effect his work. All and all, he deals with his past traumas and loses to the best of his ability (or lack thereof). He just keeps smiling, agreeing 100% that laughter is indeed the best medicine.
Beyond the extremes of happiness and sadness, on the terms of anger, Scott is rare to become it. As some say, he's "cool as a cucumber," something he obtained while working as an EMT. His ability to remain clear-minded is expansive, but if something does spark him by chance, he can be a bit frightening. Though again, it takes a whole lot to see his scary face. Settle for his smiles.
_History__
Scott spent most of his early life in Salt Lake City, Utah, living under his birth name Elliot Lee Geyer. He lived with his mother, father (who worked as a computer programmer) and younger brother, Adrian Scott Geyer, until he was 16, when his family faced its first tragic event: the death of his mother. While he, his brother, and his father were away, an escaped convict broke into his home and brutally raped and murdered her. The convict was never found, and the family moved to Los Angeles, where Scott became interesting in criminology. His younger brother, 14 at the time, was the one who took first interest in the medical field, though as Scott worked through high school and eventually graduated, he watched his father drink himself into the depths of misery and to eventual suicide.
Scott and his brother were inseparable after their father's death, Scott having been accepted into California State University in Los Angeles and taken up a part-time job to keep them living in a small apartment off-campus. Life was hard, but they both endured it until a third accident shattered what was left of their family. Right after Adrian's high school graduation, they were hit head on by a drunk driver. Scott had been driving, but had only been in the hospital for two weeks. Adrian had been killed instantly.
Adrian’s death had been the worse out of all three for Scott. He knew no other family and quickly descended into depression, but only a few months had passed before he changed his name to Scott Geyer McKay and took-up his brother's dream of becoming a doctor. He transferred to the University of California in San Francisco and studied and worked under their ranking neuroscience program before graduating and going to medical school. He served his internship at California Pacific Medical Center before moving to the east coast and working as an EMT in New York. After a few tiring years, he transferred to the department of his original medical interest, neurology, and excelled there. At the same time, he also met and went out with a nurse, Amy Locke, who he eventually married during his climb through the neurology department.
Scott received the offer of transfering to the PPTH less than a year ago, after his divorce papers with Amy Locke had been filed. He had met doctors from the PPTH prior to the offer: at different medical conferences that were popular for him to frequent, thus he had a word and recommendation already put in for him. Scott accepted the job as a new opportunity and quickly moved into a moderate apartment in Princeton, bringing his German shepherd, Sidney, and cockatoo, Edgard, with him. The latter of which being a frequent resident of his office, often getting nutshells in the patient files. Scott’s still in the process of fully settling into his new life, but he’s getting there and is already involving himself with the teaching aspect of the PPTH, and is already regularly pulling overtime. When he does get home though, he spends a lot of his time trying to learn about the unknown relatives of his parents.
